District Associate Vice President
(AVP) Bob Kilmon invited me to
attend the New Hampshire Flying
Tigers (NHFT) third Multi-Club
Fly-In. NHFT hosted the event at
its B Street flying site in Derry, in
cooperation with two other popular
New Hampshire clubs: the Southern
NH Flying Eagles based in Merrimack
and the Southern NH RC Club
located in Hudson.
My daughter moved to Derry
several years ago and I had free room
and board and the added pleasure of
visiting with my daughter, youngest
grandson, and son-in-law during the
event weekend.
I arrived at the event site early
enough to see the hard work the
club members had done to create
an exceptional flying environment.
Check out the photo of the uniquely
designed shade shelter. This 30- x
15-foot structure has a 14-foot front
shed roof, allowing for a clear view
of airplanes in flight while under the
shelter.
There was ample room for a pilot
registration table, frequency and
message board, PA system, raffle and
picnic tables, and spectator seating. A
large, metal container on-site houses
all the tools necessary to maintain the
well-groomed model airfield with a
600- x 65-foot cut and rolled grass
runway.
AMA-recommended flightline setbacks
and pit and spectator areas, as
well as flight stations with oversized
flight tables and thorough aircraft
inspections before flights, ensured
everyone’s safety.
Despite the remnants of Hurricane
Irene, nearly 500 spectators visited
the event that registered 50 pilots
More than 100 aircraft, from small
electrics to Giant Scale, were flown.
The noontime airshow included a
fun-fly Pylon Racing competition,
3-D aerobatic performances by
Tyler McCormack, and a flight
demonstration of www.toughjets.com
T-14V vector-thrust jet.
The event made the local newspaper
and I was told my interview with the
reporter was shown on TV. I was
impressed by how well organized and
run the event was.
Because of the leadership of
club officers and willingness of
club members to support events
and activities consistent with the
AMA Leader Club Gold Standards,
AMA District I recognizes the New
Hampshire Flying Tigers RC Club
as one of the best AMA clubs in the
district.
Check out the club’s website at
www.newhampshireflyingtigers.org
for future events. The club’s mission
statement defines it: “To promote
aeromodeling in a fun, safe, friendly,
courteous, and respectful manner.”

The NH Flying Tigers members, (L-R) Paul Lockwood, Brian Greenfield, Glen Bolser, Bob Kilmon,
Rodney Jack, Moe Grandmason, Bill Horton, and Joe Parolise, made the third New Hampshire
Multi-Club event a great success.
The NH Flying Tigers hosted its third Multi-Club Fly-In along with the Southern NH Flying Eagles based in Merrimack and the Southern NH RC Club
located in Hudson. This annual event is held during the last weekend of August.
