South Jersey Aeromodelers CL Event (April 29, 2012)
The Middlesex Modelers hosted the South Jersey Aeromodelers control-line (CL) racing event on April 29, 2012, as part of several CL events this season at Mountainview Park in Middlesex, New Jersey. Multiple CL event categories were flown, including National Control Line Racing Association (NCLRA) Clown Racing and some spectacular stunt flying. If you’ve never attended a CL event, or if it’s been a while since you have, you must go. The skills and techniques of these pilots and their aircraft are nothing short of incredible. Check the AMA Contest Calendar for upcoming CL events — it’s worth the trip!
Ocean County Modelers — Wiskow Field & AMA/EPA Partnership
The Ocean County Modelers (OCM) club’s Wiskow Field is the flying site featured in the first AMA/Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Superfund Partnership video and is one of the early success stories in the AMA/EPA flying-site partnership. Wiskow Field was also the site of the Ocean County Modelers’ first Whisper Quiet Fun-Fly this past spring.
Whisper Quiet Fun-Fly Highlights
Not deterred by windy weather, contest director (CD) Dan Vincent DiTursi, club president Lou Capurso, and OCM club members and volunteers put on a great event. Pilots braved the wind and flew everything from biplanes to pattern aircraft.
Demonstration pilot Dave Lockhart — along with his spotter, pit assistant, and father Ron Lockhart — brought his fleet of airplanes and flew them all.
Pilots and spectators were amazed when noted model aircraft pilot and airline captain Bryce Watson flew his fully functional V-22 Osprey. Bryce’s VTOL V-22 was a crowd pleaser and even got the attention of Horace Hagen, an RC helicopter pioneer who holds the record as the first person in the USA to hover a shaft-driven RC helicopter.
In Memoriam
We are sorry to report the passing of longtime RC Pulsers of Western New York president Albert Engl. Al will be missed by all. Our condolences to his family and fellow fliers.
Remember, it’s not about what we fly, it’s about the friends we make!
