172 MODEL AVIATION
IN NEW ENGLAND, except for indoor
aeromodeling activities and those who
enjoy flying off the snow and ice, the
flying season for most of us is just
beginning.
The district officers and I have been
contacting the clubs that have offered to
host AMA District I-sponsored events for
2008.
We are continuing with our program of
allocating district funds to sponsor open
fun-fly and specialty meets along with
noon air show entertainment. With district
sponsorship, all AMA members can attend
and fly for free.
Last year we had two specialty electric
events and two open fun-fly gatherings in
Connecticut and Massachusetts. The
locations are limited by the clubs that apply
for hosting and although we would like to
have more places to choose from, we
recognize that few clubs have the resources
to host a multiple-day event requiring
overnight parking.
The first District I-sponsored event for
2008 is an Electric Fun-Fly & Air Show
advertised below. If you’re into electrics,
don’t miss this gathering! The district
officers and I want you to attend and enjoy
these yearly events.
The AMA Park Pilot Program was
introduced in January and the AVPs and I
have been asked to speak about it at a
number of club meetings.
If your club wants to know more about
the program, its benefits and impact on
open class clubs, and how you can help
your AMA and the future of our sport,
contact me or one of the district AVPs.
