District II officers and volunteers are
working on several new initiatives
for 2012. Among these efforts are
working with social media and other
technologies to better communicate
District II information. District II now
has its own Twitter account, a Flickr
photostream, and its own blog on
AMA’s blog pages.
Although these technologies may
not be common to some of us, they’re
important in communicating with
today’s younger modelers—the future
of our hobby! These technologies also
provide more outlets to communicate
information and keep District II
members better informed.
The Westchester Radio AeroModelers
(WRAM) Show took on a new look
and a new location for 2012. The
the 44th annual event moved to the
Meadowlands Exposition Center in
Secaucus, New Jersey.
After recent years of challenges,
WRAM club members took the bold
step to leave their long-standing
location at the Westchester County
Center. The show’s relocation was
well worth the effort! Attendance
significantly improved, and wider aisles
and an open floor plan provided a
brighter atmosphere for show visitors.
It was also a great plus to have the
static displays and the popular swap
shop all on one level. WRAM club
members are appreciative of support
from show vendors and modelers alike,
and they’re already working on the
2013 WRAM Show.
We’re fortunate that the largest
model hobby show in the East is
thriving again in District II.
The Annual District II Fun-Fly has been
scheduled for August 25-26, 2012. Our
host this year will be the Lazy Eight RC
club in Johnstown, New York.
The Lazy Eight club is an AMA Gold
Level Leader Club, and is well known
for its Charity Air Shows and numerous
community events. The club’s flying
facility allows for primitive camping
with plenty of room for overnight RVs
and campers, and great facilities for
pilots and spectators.
The Lazy Eight club always serves
good food and great fun with plenty of
hospitality! For more information about
the event, visit http://lazyeightrc
club.org or www.amadistrict-ii.org.
Remember, it’s not about what we fly,
it’s about the people!
