I WANT to notify clubs in the district that I
have a few extra associate vice president
(AVP) manuals, which is a condensed
version of AMA information and contacts.
This would be very helpful when contacting
AMA and its various departments. A
directory is also included, along with a CD
and DVD for PowerPoint presentations.
These are on a first-come request basis for
as long as they last.
Associate Vice President Ron King sent in
two reports about happenings in northern
Virginia.
Pat Dunlap, Herb Weinberg, Gary
Robinson, Dan Manson, Ross Baker, Dave
Linthicum, Charlie Koustanis, Doug Cash,
and Marsh Dehart (pictured left to right in the
photo below) were invited to fly a demo at a
local winery. The event was organized by
Mark Franke and Don Manson of the
Northern Virginia Radio Control (NVRC)
club and members from several other clubs
jumped at the invitation.
The Doukenie Winery is located in
Loudoun County, Virginia, and features more
than 500 acres of rolling vineyards nestled
against the Blue Ridge Mountains. Despite
the stiff breeze, the pilots put on a great show
and have been invited to return.
While the pilots steered clear of the wine
and cheese party until flight activities ended,
our spouses were under no such restrictions
and really enjoyed the local hospitality. Photo

Prince William County RC Flyers
(PWCRCF) member Bill Davis (second from
left in the picture below) explains the set up
and inner workings of his large-scale Extra
300L to a group of Cub Scouts and their
parents during recent Cub Scout Jamboree in
northern Virginia. This event attracted Scouts
from around the region and the club
performed continuous demonstration flights
during the day.
The PWCRCF operates a flying field at
the Boy Scout’s Camp Snyder and as part of
its operating agreement, the club conducts
regular Aviation Merit Badge clinics and
participates in various Scouting activities.

Gary Stone, a member of the WindWalkers
R/C club in Virginia, offered the following
report and pictures of a recent Scout Day
event. The club signed 22 merit badges
during the gathering, and because of the
generosity of the Awesome R/C hobby shop
in Stafford, Virginia, was able to give away
an electric aircraft complete with transmitter.
The local newspaper covered the event.
Bill Varney and Louie Klenke ran the sound
system.
Hank Mousolf’s ground school.
Michael Parker, son of Walter and Susan
Parker, is a WindWalker member.
The Scouts had a great time and 22 merit
badges were earned at the event.
On a final note, I would like to thank all the
AVPs, Contest Board members, frequency
and safety coordinators, and the webmaster
for their service to the District V members.
Let me add all the CDs who run events for us
as well. Without all these volunteers, where
would we be?
Go teach a kid to fly.
