THE RALLY OF GIANTS returned to
Danville, Virginia, for its 25th anniversary
after a long absence. The event was arranged
by Jeff Phillips and the Flights Unlimited
Show Team. There were displays and
vendors of all kinds, including the necessary
food vendors.
One of the highlights of the event was the
North American Mitchell B-25 ride. Five
tickets were drawn each day from the entries
for a ride. What a way to celebrate the 25th
anniversary of the IMAA. I am not sure how
this was pulled off, but thanks to the team. I
know that those who won rides were happy.
Bob Sadler handled the announcing and
helped with awarding a young lady, Ashley
Smith, from the Fredericksburg club who had
won her wings earlier this year, with an AMA
Cap and District IV patch. Ashley was there
with her father Doug and wanted to meet me
so I arranged with Bob to do the ceremonies.
Bob invited Ashley down to Triple Tree
for the Youth Masters next year. Her father
said they would be there. Way to go Bob.
The youth are the extension of our
hobby/sport. We just need more of them. I
challenge all District IV members to sign a
kid up.

The B-25 Panchito gave five rides per day to
those with winning tickets.

Swan Harbor RC: The Swan Harbor RC
Flying Club hosted its annual Giant Scale
Fly-In on September 10, 2005, at the club’s
flying field at the Swan Harbor Farm
complex in Harford County, Maryland. The
event was held in accordance with
International Miniature Aircraft Association
(IMAA) rules.
It was a beautiful day for flying.
Approximately 30 airplanes were flown,
which was fewer than the previous year.
This can probably be attributed to the
distractions of gasoline spikes, hurricane
Katrina, and other flying events held that
day. Nevertheless, the public turnout was
equal to or greater than the year before. This
is testament to the continued interest in RC
modeling as a great spectator sport for the
whole family.
All types of airplanes were represented
including warbirds, sport flyers, and classic
oldies. The crowds were fed a wholesome
menu of hotdogs, hamburgers, and chips,
washed down with many sodas and natural
spring water.
All of the pilots returned safely. No one
could have wanted more than this day in the
country.
