Virginia Aeromodelers — National D-Day Memorial
The Virginia Aeromodelers held a fundraising campaign for the National D-Day Memorial in Bedford, Virginia. The memorial is in Bedford because many from the Bedford area lost their lives on June 6, 1944.
AMA President Dave Mathewson, his wife Ginger, my wife Shirley, and I attended the ceremonies at the memorial. It was a touching event, and the club had a model display there as well.
At the Virginia Aeromodelers’ field, a Fairchild PT-19 and a Stearman PT-17 performed fly-overs both days of the event. The club raised $509 for the memorial.
Guru Aviation — Chase City Elementary School
Part of the staff of Guru Aviation provided a model aviation display and flight demonstration for Chase City Elementary School’s “I Want to Learn Day.”

The group talked about model aviation and performed for more than 400 kids and teachers. The display consisted of RC aircraft from micro to Giant Scale. Teachers reported that the show was the kids’ favorite activity of the day.
