BILL HAMBY, an associate vice president
from North Carolina, has resigned. I want to
thank him for being a district volunteer.
The Virginia Aeromodelers had a fundraising
campaign for the National D-Day
Memorial in Bedford, Virginia. The
memorial was built there because many
from the Bedford area lost their lives on
June 6, 1944.
AMA President Dave Mathewson, his
wife Ginger, my wife Shirley, and I attended
the ceremonies at the memorial and it was a
touching event. The club had a model
display there as well.
At the Virginia Aeromodelers’ field a
Fairchild PT-19 and a Stearman PT-17
performed a fly-over both days of the event.
The club raised $509 for the memorial.
Guru Aviation: Part of the staff of Guru
Aviation, Chris “Lucky” Carnes, Cody
Hazen, and Austin Carnes, provided a model
aviation display and flight demonstration for
Chase City Elementary School’s “I Want to
Learn Day.”
The group was able to talk about model
aviation and perform for more than 400 kids
and teachers. The display consisted of RC
aircraft from micro to Giant Scale. Teachers
reported that the show was the kids’ favorite
activity of the day.
