Flights Unlimited / Hardee’s Air Show Team — Danville Regional Airport, Danville, VA (May 3–4, 2003)
FLIGHTS UNLIMITED, also known as Hardee’s Air Show Team, flew its demonstration two consecutive days at the Danville Regional Airport, Danville, Virginia, May 3–4, 2003.
Included in the routine were helicopter demonstrations, International Miniature Aerobatics Club (IMAC) routines, and a flying-lawnmower demonstration. Scale warbirds were flown during the show and there was a buddy-box session.
This was in conjunction with a full-scale air show that included aerobatic routines, helicopter rides, the “flying farmer,” a static display of civilian and military aircraft, and a Heritage Flight featuring an A-10 Warthog and a P-51.
Jeff Phillips, who headed up the show team, said they will also be flying at the Festival of Flight in Fayetteville, North Carolina.
AMA was represented by a booth display staffed by Shirley Teague in the terminal building. There was a booth by Bob Morgan, who was a pilot of the Memphis Belle B-17 in Europe. The U.S. Space & Rocket Center in Huntsville, Alabama, was there with its display.
It was a fun weekend for all who attended and watched.
Colonial Virginia Aeromodelers Mall Show — Outlet Mall, Lightfoot, VA (May 15–16, 2003)
The Colonial Virginia Aeromodelers (CVA) held its 12th annual Mall Show at the Outlet Mall in Lightfoot, Virginia, May 15–16, 2003. The weekend featured a display of more than 30 aircraft of all types and sizes, equipment displays, simulators, and CVA members building and repairing aircraft while talking with many interested mall patrons.
Patrons cast votes for Best-in-Show for the aircraft on display. A raffle was held for two almost-ready-to-fly (ARF) models. As in past years, the show attracted a large number of interested shoppers and is likely to result in new membership candidates for the local club.
Information and pictures were furnished by Ed Zwerski, CVA activities chairman.
