District IV
Warbirds over Virginia (October 3–4, 2007)
The Gretna Radio Flyers co-sponsored the Warbirds over Virginia with the Giant Scale Warbird Association on October 3–4, 2007. Rod Jaeger was CD, and Chris Joiner from the Warbird Association was there to assist. The club field had not matured enough to use last year, so they had to cancel the event then. Many fliers attended this time to use a new grass runway with plenty of room. The weather was great, so there was plenty of flying. Pilots came from Virginia, North Carolina, Maryland, Florida, and Georgia. This was a good crowd to christen a new field.
Food was available on site; people did not have to leave and could get in more flying in the beautiful Virginia countryside. It is likely this will become an annual event.
Some of the aircraft present included:
- Dave McQueeney’s radial-engine Bearcat
- Rod Jaeger’s B-25
- Dave Feplestein’s P-51
- Terry Lamb’s Waco biplane
- Jo Oglesby’s P-47
- Jerrel Bolick’s Corsair
- Roger Spoor’s Me 110
- William Cofer’s beautiful D.VII
Go take a kid flying.
Winston-Salem RC Club Swap Meet (November 10, 2007)
The Winston-Salem RC Club held its annual swap meet in a new, larger building this year at the Dixie Fairgrounds in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, on November 10, 2007. There were vendors galore to fill the new facility. Norm McPherson and Phil Vance kept everything organized and moving.
There were plenty of door prizes donated by local businesses to give away. The International Miniature Aircraft Association’s District IV director, Bill Hamby, staffed the IMAA booth.
The pictures show the activity and modelers looking for a bargain. There were plenty of items to get their attention, and many went home happy with what they had acquired. Just wait until next year!
