THE 2008 CULPEPER AIR FEST:
Reaction to the model aviation part of the
2008 Culpeper Air Fest by the Airport
Committee was excellent. The only negative
comments about the model show were from
the people who came later and missed it.
For that reason Mike Dale, the Airport
Committee member responsible for the air
show, has moved it forward one hour. The
model show will now be from 12:00 to 1:00
rather than from 11:00 to 12:00. That is
great support for our hobby from Mike Dale
and the Airport Committee.
Among the many positive comments
about the model aviation part of the Air Fest
was that it provided a good range of
models—from simple to sophisticated. So it
is hoped that we can put on a similar show
this year on October 10.
At this time here are many questions
about the 2009 Air Fest concerning what
participants we will have with the continued
budget shortfalls and how much can be
raised from donors, etc. But two things are
definite: there will be a 2009 Air Fest and
there will be a model aviation show as a part
of it. In fact, our role may be expanded to
provide activity at other times during the
show while full-scale airplanes are gathering
or being positioned.
We were blessed with excellent weather
during the 2008 show, and that may not
always be the case. We must be prepared for
limiting flights to only those models that can
handle wind and rain, and be prepared for
delays in schedule or for filling in blanks at
times.
I hope that everyone who participated in
the model aviation show last year will be able
to come back and be a part of it again this
year. As your schedule develops, please let
me know if you cannot make it. If you have
any suggestions for making improvements in
the show please let me know.
I will try to double our tent size for the
static displays and get more tables. Please

model details when you can.
