District IV Report - 2012/06

Author: Bliss Teague

Edition: Model Aviation - 2012/06

Gold has represented greatness
throughout history and today is no
exception. It is an accomplishment
for any club to become an AMA Gold
Leader Club. To receive this honor for
five, 10, or more years in a row is an
outstanding achievement.
This year, the Central Carolina R/C
Modelers club of High Point, North
Carolina, received its 10-year Gold
Leader Club honors—one of only 10
clubs across the country to receive this
honor. Congratulations to CCRC.
Pictured is the president of CCRC, Joe Walton,
receiving the 10-year plaque and patches from
AVP Jay Marsh at a club meeting.
Jack Stites, president of the Radio
Control Modelers of Baltimore,
submitted this report:
Members of the Radio Control
Modelers of Baltimore were happy
to have Randy Elliot, associate vice
president (AVP) of District IV,
represent AMA at the rededication of
our newly remodeled and expanded
facilities. We were thrilled when
he presented us with a check from
the AMA for $3,328.42, which
was 10% of the cost of our major
improvements. The AMA gave us
the funds in the form of a Flying Site
Development/Improvement grant for
which we applied. Our total cost was
$33,284.42.
Our club, which was formed in
the 1950s, believes in and supports
the AMA. As president, I want to
thank our District IV vice president,
Bliss Teague, and my wife, Sara, for
guiding our group through this grantapplication
process.
Our organization is an active Gold
Leader Club that tries to reach out to
the area through the Civil Air Patrol,
Boy/Girl Scouts, local veterans’ groups,
and colleges. We have three club
training airplanes in our small hangar
and 20 instructors to give people
firsthand experience in flying RC.
At the recent WRAM show in New
Jersey, we thanked Dave Mathewson
and Gary Fitch of AMA and showed
them some pictures of our field
improvements.
