AMA DISTRICT IX includes North and
South Dakota, Colorado, Wyoming, Kansas,
and Nebraska. These states have one notable
attribute in common: the winter weather is
crummy for outdoor flying!
Ken Stitt (L), event organizer, and Mike
Tallman, (R) District IX associate vice
president (AVP), take in the fun at the E-Fly.
It may be difficult to get in the flying time
we all want, so there is an attraction to flying
indoors in warm comfort with no wind. Such
was the case at the Clearview Field E-Fly
event at the spacious Hartman Arena in Park
City, Kansas, just north of Wichita, Kansas.
Ken Stitt and his able assistant, Kim Walker,
are the lifeblood of this event and are
gracious hosts to all who attend.
The three-day event attracted rough ly 100
pilots this year. Competitions, fun-flying,
vendor attractions, food, and beverages made
the event a resounding success. Ken plans to
hold the event again in 2012, so check out his
website at www.clearviewfield.com and get it
on your calendar.
Elden Schniepp (L) won first place the Vapor
Pylon Race and was given an award by Bob
Wilder (R), event CD.
Javin Anderson was one of the young event
participants. This is the future of the AMA!
The Vapor Pylon Races are always fanfavorites!
Good ceiling height was a great benefit.
Have you checked out our reworked website
for District IX lately? If not, give it a try at
www.amadistrict-ix.com. Please note that
the address has changed. We are now a
“.com” rather than a “.org.”
Our webmaster, Norm Berger, has
worked hard to make our site user-friendly.
Norm is focusing on including an easy-touse
calendar of events for District IX. If
your club would like to have some of your
2012 events listed on the site, contact Norm
at [email protected].
The Denver Metro Area Council members
are conducting a brainstorming session at
the club’s next meeting to talk about ways to
deal with neighbors and the community, in
hopes of preserving flying sites. If you have
thoughts on the subject, forward them to me
and I will add them to the list. I will be
summarizing the session in next month’s
issue of MA.
As you may know, AMA has signed a
Memorandum of Understanding with the
Education Division of the FAA. An event at
the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs,
Colorado, is planned for 2012. I will keep
you advised as program details are finalized.
It would be a great opportunity for the
members in District IX to participate. Lora
Knowlton is our contact person with the
FAA. She has managed the AMA EXPO in
Ontario, California, the last few years, and is
a great asset to AMA. I thank her for
stepping up to the plate and taking on this
exciting challenge.
