District IX 2014/05

Norm Berger sent this information from the 40th—yes 40th—Annual Jefco Aeromod’lers Auction. I had planned to be there, but bad weather and roads made it impossible.
It sounds as though they didn’t miss me because more than 300 registered buyers were on hand to take away in excess of 800 items. This has to be the largest auction around.

“The Aeromod’lers Club #176 Annual Auction was held on Super Bowl weekend, but that and bad weather didn’t keep people away. We had a great turnout as usual. This year’s event was chaired by John Lipe and supported by more than 50 of the Jefco Aeromod’lers members as well as some friends of the club. Auctioneers were AMA Associate Vice President (AVP) Tom Neff and Howie Wayne both of whom work this event although they are not club members. We thank them wholeheartedly!
“According to our club historian Lee Taylor, this event originated in 1974 so this makes our 40th year hosting it! This is the biggest fundraiser for the Jefco Aeromod’lers and the major reason we can keep the dues for our 250 members reasonable. This event also is a major event for the modeling public and anxiously anticipated each year by people for miles around. See you next year.”

I found this great picture in the Knee Knocker News, the official publication of the Fremont County R/C Flyers in Colorado. The picture is from the Fremont Flyers New Year’s Day Nitro-Chili Burn. The picture shows Mark Loyalty, the grandson of newsletter editor Mark Sullivan who is on the right of the picture.

From Tom Neff, AVP from Colorado, news of the annual event at the Wings Over the Rockies Museum in Denver.

“Once again this year, as in many past years, Wings Over the Rockies hosted the Aeromodeling at the Hangar event on Saturday, February 15. All the local clubs in the area were represented showcasing all aspects of aeromodeling from FF to RC to robotics. Along with their respective club information and handouts, clubs had simulators, buddy-box flying, make-and-take gliders, and many other interactive events for the assembled want-to-be fliers.
“It takes great effort from many people to make this a success. Special thanks to Steve Gram from the Miniature Aero Sportsters; Norm Burger, Colorado AVP from the Jeffco Aeromod’lers; Joe Pirozzoli, public relations officer from the Arvada Associated Modelers; and Dylan Neff from the Airpark Elite.”
