District IX - 2015/04
The Indoor Free Flight Nats will be held June 8-12, 2015, in the Colorado Springs City Auditorium. This will be the first time that the Indoor Nats will be downtown near motels and restaurants. It is a setting that more closely resembles the venues most people fly in across the country. One special feature will be the smooth ceiling in the auditorium. No models trapped in the beams here.
District IX 2015/03
The District IX scholarship fund has been in existence since last December. I am extremely pleased with your response to this effort, both as clubs and individuals. I must make note of one contribution I received shortly after the announcement went out. On December 20, this letter arrived from the treasurer of the 95th Street Group, Bill Alexander.
District IX - 2015/02
This fall, the AMA asked the Valley RC Flyers (VRCF) club of Fargo, North Dakota, and Moorhead, Minnesota, to be the local facilitators for the unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) demonstrations at the Big Iron Farm Show in September. Long-time club member and retired Air Force pilot Dick Vos took the top spot and did a professional job running the event. He met with the four teams and pilots the day before the event, laid out the safety plan as well as the configuration of the field, and ensured that each pilot and spotter was an AMA member.
District IX - 2015/01
Sadly, I have to note the passing of Darrell Watts in November. Darrell was the grand master of float plane building and flying. He was active in the Michigan area for many years and for the past few years with several Kansas City clubs. Darrell was the driving force of the Heart of America Float Fly in Paola, Kansas.
