THE UPPER CUMBERLAND Radio
Control Society conducted its annual Electric
Fun-Fly. Ronald Hankins was the contest
director (CD). Held in Cookeville, Tennessee,
the event was open to all forms of electricpowered
aircraft. The Cumberland club has a
nice field in the middle of a tree farm.
Here are some of the fliers who
participated: Dave Hamlet; Jack Filo from
Florida; Greg Evans; Bob Mackie; Zeb
Gentry; Mike Burgess; Dale Hughes; Tom
Polite; John Byrne; Rob Plamondon; Bob
Sealy, club secretary and treasurer; Greg
Garrison, club vice president.
Mike Burgess
(L) is holding his
Zoogie airplane.
Mike is from
Cookeville. Rob
Plamondon is
holding his
gold-and-black
Star King model.
Paul Garner and his family came from
Murfreesboro to fly. Here’s Paul and Holly
with their children Jacob and Emily.
The Upper Cumberland RC Society’s
Electric Fun-Fly was competitive in nature.
Some events were competitions with plaque
awards.
Bob Mackie, an electronic whiz, brought a
digital camera that he us to snap pictures of
winners. Bob transferred the photos to a
laptop computer, printed them out with a
printer in his car, then glued the highly
detailed picture of each winner on the plaque.
Amazing, and done quickly.
Space does not allow much reporting here
of this fun blast. If you have a computer, look
up this contest on your District Web site,
www.modelair.org. There are 20 pictures
there.
The Middle Tennessee Radio Control
Society conducted a C-restricted, Wings Over
Music City fun-fly at Cane Ridge Park near
Nashville. Dick Tonan, your District V
Contest Coordinator for all states except
Florida, was CD.

newly appointed associate vice president
(AVP) for District V; Bill Day; Ronnie

Here’s Charles Pierre from North Carolina,
left, and Richard Majors from Nashville,
Tennessee, with Richard’s Curtiss Robin. It
has a three-cylinder engine with a lot of
power and flew perfectly.
Meet Tom Blunt from Louisville, Kentucky.
His wife Trina and my wife Lucy are in the
background petting Tom’s two dogs. Tom’s
Stinson Reliant is a Scale masterpiece.
Space does not permit showing any more of
these two fine clubs, the Middle Tennessee
RC and the Cumberland RC Society. They are
our Clubs of the Month for this month. Both
received a flag and will receive a framed
plaque and enough cloth patches for everyone
in each club signifying the Club of the Month
status.
There are 20 pictures on your District V
Web site of the Middle Tennessee blast.
Pictured above is AVP Judi Dunlap
explaining how airplanes fly to 150 students
at the Sumter school in Sumpter, Florida.
Judi’s husband Harry is flying the airplane
they are watching.
AVP Fred Mulholland does an incredible job
representing AMA in the Tampa, Florida,
area. Fred sent this snap of Cub Scouts at
the Florida Float Flyers seaplane base. Fred
says each got to fly the Astro-Hog via a
buddy box. (L-R) rear: Fred Mulholland;
Lance Smith; Cub Scout leader Peter Kelly.
The four Cub Scouts in front are Charlie
Martin, Hayden Kelly, Pat Burnett, and
Travis Smith.
