I ATTENDED the West Tennessee Radio
Control (RC) Flyers’ Toys for Tots Fly-in
at Jackson, Tennessee. A 30-mph wind
brought with it a blanket of cold air.
The West Tennessee RC Club has been
around for 25 years. This field is furnished
by the Jackson Water Company. It has a
fine 700 x 150 runway of clipped grass.
(L to R) Alex Treneff; Mark Taylor; Jimmy
Gibson; the club president holding the
Club of the Month flag I awarded them;
Tim Blankenship; Mike Grippen, club
secretary, also holding the flag; safety
officer David Huff.
Pictured here is Kurt Reekstin with his
SPAD-type airplane. It has a gutter pipe
fuselage. Kurt told me that if it crashes
in a heavy wind, he has only lost $4 or $5
less the radio and engine. Notice how
everyone in this picture is bundled up
for the very cold weather?
There are 20 color pictures of this event
on the District V Web site at
www.modelair.org.
Immediately after the club was awarded
its Club of the Month flag, the flag was
hoisted up on the pole under the US flag.
Fred Mulholland is an AVP in District V.
He and his wife Barbara get around plenty.
They attend almost every Radio Control or
Free Flight event in Florida and across the
country.
Fred and Barbara have just returned
from the 50th King Orange Internationals
in Palm Bay, Florida. Fred says that the
contest was dedicated to Ray Mathews,
designer of a famous Free Flight model,
the Fubar.
Pictured is District V Free Flight Contest
Board member Ron Sharpton holding his
Fubar 1000. Behind him is Ray Mathews,
the designer.
Barbara Mulholland was the contest
director (CD) at a recent Walt Good
Memorial SAM contest held in Zeypher
Hills, Florida.
CD Barbara on the left is pictured with
some of the contestants (L to R) Jerrie
Garries, Arnold Hernandez, Peter
Strayer, Ted Patrolia, Tom McCoy, Paul
Schmitz, Ted Roman, and Tom Hopkins.
Your District V Web site is at
