District VI 2014/02

Author: Randy Cameron

Edition: Model Aviation - 2014/02
Page Numbers: 152

Congratulations to AMA President Bob Brown and District I Vice President Andy Argenio on your reelections. Congratulations as well to to Kris Dixon (District V) and Jim Tiller (District IX) for being elected vice president in their respective districts. I look forward to working with all of you during the next few years.

Congratulations are also in order for AMA’s Education department which includes Director Bill Pritchett and his staff Jessy Symmes and Emily Loy, and AMA’s Education Outreach Specialist, Dr. Gordon Schimmel. The Muncie-Delaware County Chamber of Commerce held its annual awards dinner, attended by nearly 400 business and community leaders.
AMA received the chamber’s 2013 Outstanding Contribution to Education award. This award recognizes a teacher, administrator, organization, or company that has made significant contributions to education or workforce development in Muncie and Delaware County. Great work team.

It looks as though we are in for a cold winter, and we will be in the middle of it when you receive this issue. Good flying days this time of year in our district are few. I hope you are able to get some building in.
If you are interested in building something from scratch, don’t forget about the AMA Plans Service. There are roughly 18,000 individual plans available. You should be able to find something that piques your interest.

Tom Duncan submitted the following:

“The 20th annual Military Fly-In was held at the Rend Lake R/C Club field. Pilots came from Missouri, Illinois, and Indiana. More than 40 pilots and 100-plus military aircraft flew that day. Thirteen awards were presented to the participants, plus several different merchandise awards.
“I would like to invite all warbird pilots to join us next year. Call or email CD Tom Duncan for additional information at [email protected]; tel.: (618) 237-7731.

Program of the Month: Have any of you recently visited the National Model Aviation Museum? If not, I recommend putting it on your bucket list. There is free admission for all AMA members.
There is also the Museum Patron Program. The program supports the work of the museum and the Lee Renaud Memorial Research Library. Vital restoration and preservation work that is done and museum expansion is supported by this fund. Becoming a Museum Parton is easy and inexpensive. Go to www.modelaircraft.org/files/museumpatronapplication.pdf for a form to make a donation.
This is a great cause, and supports the world’s largest model aviation museum. It’s in our district, and although it’s cold, take a break from building for a visit to the museum. You will be glad you did.
Happy flying.
