District VI—Kentucky, Illinois, Indiana, Missouri

Randy Cameron, Vice President

As I write this, I dread the thought of Old Man Winter arriving. It seems to be getting colder earlier than normal. For many, the building season has come into full swing.

I hope everyone is enjoying the holiday season and has a wonderful Christmas and New Year holiday. I asked the big guy (actually my wife playing the part of Santa) for one of Horizon’s Ultra Micro FPV all-in-one camera systems.

I have a Fat Shark FPV setup in my electric-powered Seniorita and I have a ball with it. I typically fly the airplane and the goggles get passed around to anyone who wants to see what the bird’s-eye view looks like. It can be interesting to see what is around your flying field from the air.

At one event I was asked to do a loop, and the lady wearing the goggles at the time nearly fell over backward. The one time I flew with the goggles on, I made sure I was sitting in a chair.

Permanent TFR (FDC 4/3621)

Are you familiar with the Permanent TFR number FDC 4/3621, recently put out by the FAA? A portion of it states:

“...commencing one hour before the scheduled time of the event until one hour after the end of the event. All aircraft operations, including parachute jumping, unmanned aircraft and remote controlled aircraft, are prohibited within and up to and including 3,000 ft AGL of any stadium having a seating capacity of 30,000 or more people where either a regular or post‑season Major League Baseball, National Football League, or NCAA Division One football game is occurring. This NOTAM also applies to NASCAR Sprint Cup, IndyCar, and Champ Series races, excluding qualifying and pre‑race events. Flights conducted for operational purposes of any event, stadium, or venue, and broadcast coverage for the broadcast rights holder are authorized with an approved airspace waiver.”

I know of one District VI club affected by this TFR, and there may be more. If you have questions about it, feel free to contact me.

Events and Grants

I was honored to attend the Kansas City Radio Control (KCRC) Warbird event held September 7, 2014. Susan Calvin, KCRC president, provided the following photos.

For clubs submitting flying site grants, please be working on those requests now. The more complete the submission, the better chance you have. Late submissions cannot be accepted.

Being a Leader Club can make the difference between receiving grant money and not.

Merry Christmas to all, and to all, a great flight! Happy modeling!
