I was busy in May with Joe Nall Week and a family vacation on Mother’s Day. During the Joe Nall, I met up with many groups from Texas.

The Fort Worth Thunderbirds’ 18th annual Warbirds Over Benbrook in Texas on May 17 was a huge success with 58 registered pilots and many other spectators and families. Guest of honor was local Congresswoman Kay Granger, who was instrumental in working with the Corps of Engineers to relocate the club to a new facility on Lake Benbrook. Tom Blakeney, club vice president, presented her with a custom plaque thanking her for her enormous contributions to the success of the new facility.

Over Memorial Day weekend, I traveled to Edgard, Louisiana, for the Crescent City RC Club’s 27th annual Memorial Day Fly-In. Ray Miller ran the event with help from the club president, Jeff Caldwell. Lots of club members came out and the club had 37 pilots from throughout Louisiana.
In the digital version of MA, you will find a link to a video of the event on YouTube at http://youtu.be/49Pdh4FNe6I. A slide show is also included. The weather was good, the food was outstanding, and the people were great. Everywhere I go I find lots of nice people and everyone makes you feel at home.

A large contingent of the club gathered in this tent. All were having a great time.

The club had a trainer on-site and gave kids flights on a buddy box.

This was my first trip to Louisiana and although I spent more time driving than flying, we enjoyed the club and everyone present. I am looking forward to going back as soon as I get a chance.

Jeff Caldwell and Ray Miller both received Making a Difference awards for the hard work they put forth.

On yhe last day of May the Albuquerque Radio Control Club held its Kids’ Day. The event was run by Erwin Helman. They had lots of participation and had support from a local Civil Air Patrol group. A slide show is included in the digital version.

I hope to see you all at the field!
