The flying season is beginning for most of us, so I thought it was a good time to think about field safety. Associate Vice President (AVP) Jim Rice wrote the following for this month.

In January, I attended AMA Expo2015 and the AMA Executive Council meeting. During this year’s event, Jim Rice spoke about safety. Jim did his presentation on the main stage.
District VIII 2015/03
Joe Jopling was awarded the Carl and Beth Goldberg Vital People Award on December 5, 2014. He was appreciative to receive national recognition for what he has done for the Fort Worth Thunderbirds Club for the past few years. During his acceptance, Joe related a small story about how memorable this award is since one of his first airplanes was a Carl Goldberg Zipper he built and flew when he was part of the Fort Worth Gas Modelers Association.
District VIII - 2015/01
On September 25-26, 2014, we had our annual District VIII Celebration of Flight in Kingsbury, Texas, sponsored by the Tri-City Flyers. The club did a great job with the event again this year. We had a bit of rain on Saturday, but still got lots of flying in on both days. We had nine District X associate vice presidents in attendance as well as AMA President Bob Brown and Rich Hanson, Dave Mathewson, and Ilona Maine from AMA Headquarters.
District VIII - 2014/12
On the last weekend in August, I went to the 15th annual Mooreland, Oklahoma, Fun-Fly. We had a great time flying and enjoying a few different events. Darwin Loomis and the club did a great job running the fly-in. There was a great turnout of pilots and the site with a pond, RV hookups, and a nice grass runway, is a wonderful place to fly.
