District VIII 2014/01

On October 5-6, we had our annual District VIII Celebration of Flight and Memorial in Kingsbury, Texas. I would like to thank everyone for coming out to the event and supporting the Tri-City Flyers, which hosted it.
I believe that this gathering is good for the district because it gets all of the associate vice presidents (AVPs) together and allows us to pull some staff from AMA Headquarters to make presentations and visit with the membership.
We had two good days of flying on Saturday and Sunday. Everyone was able to see the AMA Mobile Experience (aka the education trailer) which houses four flight simulators with huge monitors.
The trailer was in Lake Charles, Louisiana, for an air show the previous week and was headed to the World Aerobatic Championships (WAC) in north Texas the following week, so we were fortunate have it for the weekend in between.
Randy Brown, our now-official District VIII transportation director, was kind enough to drive the truck and trailer from Lake Charles to Kingsbury, and then Tony Breyen, an AVP for the Dallas/Fort Worth area, drove it up to the WAC afterward. Thands, Randy for everything you did for us in the last couple of months.
Jessy Symmes and Ilona Maine came from Headquarters to visit and talk with member, and were welcomed with open arms, as always.
Lastly, I want to thank the Tri-City Flyers for supporting AMA and the district celebration. Thanks to all of you in the club who helped Linda and Frank make the event a success!

Hope to see you all at the field!
