Lawrence Tougas, Vice President

Happy New Year (insert the sound of a party horn)!

January brings our first big event in District X. AMA Expo 2015 is January 9–11. You can see a schedule of events, the list of speakers, and find out about the exhibitors by visiting www.amaexpo.com. I hope you'll be able to attend.

We will have a District X meeting on Saturday, January 10, at 1 p.m. The meeting will be held in Room 100A/B. At the meeting you'll receive the latest AMA news, have a chance to ask questions, and possibly score a new radio.

That's right — I'll be giving away a new Futaba 14SGA to one lucky attendee. There's no cost to be in the drawing, but you need to be present to win. Come to the meeting, enter the drawing, get up to speed on District X and national issues, and take home a new $600, 14-channel transmitter. I'll see you there.

Circle City Flyers Scale Contest

The Circle City Flyers (CFF) of Corona, California, held a Scale contest on October 5 at Deleo Field. The club has a beautiful 600-foot paved runway, 19 positions under the covered pits, and five flying stations that allow for plenty of flying and fun.

It was a warm day for October, but the winds were light. Flying went on all day without any mishaps. The children received balsa gliders and NASCAR posters, which they seemed to enjoy.

Everyone broke for lunch between scale helicopter and sport helicopter demos. After voting for the winning airplanes and announcing awards, the raffle began. There were some nice prizes, including several ARFs, a radio, and electric retracts.

When you combine great scale airplanes, great flying, good music, good food, awards, and a giant raffle, it makes for a wonderful time. Jesse Paz, the event coordinator, and Danny Salas, the contest director, would like to give special thanks to Jerry Deleo for his continued support of the Circle City Flyers.

New Associate Vice President

Please help me welcome Dan Johnston of St. George, Utah, as our newest associate vice president (AVP). Dan is joining our current Utah AVP, Todd Sheridan, to double our coverage in the state.

  • President of the Remote Possibilities RC club in St. George.
  • Extensive experience: started in Control Line aerobatics and combat, then progressed to reed RC equipment and proportional radios.
  • Served as an officer in a number of clubs.
  • Actively engages youth and military members in modeling; finds the greatest reward in helping others enjoy our sport.

Welcome, Dan.

That's it for this month. Please plan to attend the Expo and come to our meeting — maybe you'll walk away with a new radio. Happy landings.
