District X - 2015/05
As the little girl in the movie Poltergeist once said, “They’re here.” I’m referring to the FAA, the large federal agency that, after reviewing AMA’s 70-plus years of safe Aeromodeling, decided it would develop federal regulations for operating model aircraft. Its notice of proposed rulemaking (NPRM) was released to modelers on February 15, 2015.
District X - 2015/04
As winter gives way to spring, it’s time to revisit the subject of battery safety. Please take the time to reduce the amount of combustible materials around your field. A simple downed model can turn into a major fire if the battery ignites brush or grasses. The less fuel a potential fire can consume, the easier it will be to control it.
District X 2015/03
AMA Expo 2015 just came to a close. It was, as always, a busy weekend. For me, the highlights included the excellent turnout we had for the District X meeting—more than 150 people attended—and the excellent turnout of both vendors and visitors. I got a chance to speak with so many members and saw old friends.
District X - 2015/02
The Chino Valley Model Aviators, located north of Prescott, Arizona, celebrated the rededication of the club’s flying field with a ceremony and fun-fly on September 12-13. Arizona District X Associate Vice Presidents (AVPs) Jim Mohan and Kurtis Chandler were on hand to enjoy a great day of flying and add their congratulations.
