MODEL AVIATION
THE FIRST full weekend of May finds
many Northwestern modelers at Wenatchee,
Washington. That weekend is not only the
Red Apple Flyers’ Fly-In but the local
Apple Blossom Festival, which draws
thousands of visitors and every high school
band in the state—or so it seems!
This year was a bit different in that it will
be the last of this event at this field. The
club is moving a short distance away to
another site that is nearly completed.
The first two photos are of the Red
Apple Flyers’ new clubhouse.
I believe the new paved runway is 900
feet long with a grass strip next to it. The
clubhouse comes with indoor plumbing and
even showers. There is a large meeting room
and a large full-service kitchen.
The new site has 25 RV sites that have
power and water hookups at each.
The Red Apple Flyers is a club that was
almost without a place to fly 20 years ago. It
is the best example of what a group can
accomplish when they put their minds and
backs into a project.
They had good and lean years,
agreements and disagreements, but throught
it all they will soon have a real monument
showing what can be done if you stay the
course.
Congratulations, guys! I’m proud to say I
know you!
Until next time. Bruce.
This is the Red Apple Flyers’ “old field,” one
most of us can only wish we had, during the
weekend event.

Right: Look out below!
Here comes the
Candy Bomber on a
low pass. The kids
love this close look at
the homebuilt, but
most of all his large
payload of candy.
Below: As the pilot
flys into the western
sky, the munchkins
are turned loose and
there was no shortage
of candy for all. This is
a popular event and
was much enjoyed at
the last fly-in at the
old location.
