Red Apple Flyers Fly-In (Wenatchee, Washington)
The first full weekend of May finds many Northwestern modelers in Wenatchee, Washington. That weekend is not only the Red Apple Flyers’ Fly-In but also the local Apple Blossom Festival, which draws thousands of visitors—and every high school band in the state, or so it seems!
This year was a bit different in that it was the last time the event was held at that field. The club is moving a short distance to a new site that is nearly completed. The first two photos are of the Red Apple Flyers’ new clubhouse.
I believe the new paved runway is 900 feet long with a grass strip next to it. The clubhouse includes indoor plumbing and showers, a large meeting room, and a full-service kitchen. The new site also has 25 RV sites with power and water hookups at each.
The Red Apple Flyers is a club that was almost without a place to fly 20 years ago. It is the best example of what a group can accomplish when they put their minds and backs into a project. They had good years and lean years, agreements and disagreements, but through it all they will soon have a real monument showing what can be done if you stay the course.
Congratulations, guys! I’m proud to say I know you!
Until next time. Bruce.
