JUNE 20-22 found us at the SW Idaho
ScaleMasters Qualifier, held at the Nampa
Model Aviators field. This field is on a
bluff in the middle of a golf course with a
spectacular view. The Idaho Scale
Squadron sponsored the event, and contest
director (CD) Ray Schellekens did a great
job directing this event.
Rich Babcock is shown with his Acrolite.
This is a model of a Canadian homebuilt.
Rich’s Acrolite is in a low, slow flyby in a
very strong crosswind.
Don Erwin shows his Spacewalker. Don
and his wife Garrianne who calls for him,
have been flying as a team for many
years.
This close-up of the Spacewalker panel
is just an example if the great work Don
does.
Bill Ensley’s P-40 is another superb
model.
Claude Tanner, a veteran of many
ScaleMasters, and Randy Matley with
Randy’s Sopwith 11/2-Strutter. I believe
this was Randy’s first time at the
ScaleMasters and he did very well with
this fine model. Randy, you are in some
good company.
Eugene Job’s Sea Fury has won its
share of Scale meets and was quite a
crowd pleaser.
The Sea Fury on departure.
District XI Associate Vice President Al
Culver served as chief judge. He, together
with his crew, had a tough time choosing
winners from this lineup.
Many club members made this a
wonderful event for modelers and
spectators. Mike Ingram, who was
suffering a leg injury, put in many long
hours and as always, Mike’s wife Teri was
the chief statistics officer. If Teri were any
faster totaling and checking the scores they
would be posted before the flight was over.
At the Saturday night dinner the
traditional paper airplane contest was held.
I can’t help but wonder how many mothers
said to their children, “I hope you don’t act
like that when you are out.”
Thanks to all who made this event so
much fun.
