District XI Report - 2007/11

Author: Bruce Nelson

Edition: Model Aviation - 2007/11
Page Numbers: 165

THE FIRST WEEK of June and again in
September finds many modelers from both
sides of the border in Salmon Arm, British
Columbia. This fall was no exception.
A number of attendees choose to take
advantage of the campground at the site and
evenings are a time for campfires and
visiting with old friends. Many fliers have
been attending for nearly two decades.
I have included a few photos of some of
the many high quality aircraft that have
become the norm at this event.
Dusk settles at the beach on the first
evening.
A Beechcraft Staggerwing is being prepped
for flight.
An Electric Turbo Beaver built by Loren
Barber, with a Giant Scale Fairchild Husky in
the background. Only 12 full-scale Huskies
were ever built.
I believe Jim Carpenter is the proud owner
of this Ag Cat on floats.
One of several Canadair water bombers in
various sizes, this is a popular model.
Dave Collis’s 1/3-scale Cub.
Ted Hendrickson of Concrete, Washington,
displays his 1/3-scale Cub. Like Dave’s, it is a
real attention-getter.
This event is a must for the serious float
flier and our Canadian hosts go all out to
make this one of the best events that I have
attended.
Until next time. Bruce.
