District I - 2012/07
AMA Flying Site Development Improvement Grant
The AMA Flying Site Development Improvement Grant program helps fund AMA Chartered Clubs that have spent or intend to spend money on flying site improvement projects. A portion of AMA member dues funds this program, which covers 10% of the cost of projects with grants up to $5,000.
2012 Grant Awards
- This year, 18 clubs from 10 districts applied for grants, requesting a total of $17,487, which was less than the available funds.
- Every club that applied was awarded a grant.
In District I, only one club applied: R/C 1/4 Scale Modelers of Rhode Island. The club was awarded the second-highest grant of $3,500. Congratulations to the club and all its members for taking on this ambitious project.
R/C 1/4 Scale Modelers of Rhode Island — Project Details
The flying site was moved because nearby buildings and power lines were encroaching on the runway, making flying difficult and hindering the club's ability to attract new members. The club funded the move with $300 from each member, supplemented by the AMA grant money. The club may be able to return members' contributions in the future through increased income from new memberships.
How to Apply
There is more than $30,000 available for clubs that have a flying site improvement project in mind for this year or 2013. You can apply at: www.modelaircraft.org/files/712.pdf.
Your district vice president can help your club with grant applications, especially with advice on:
- Determining the primary reasons for the site improvements.
- Identifying the benefits and value the club could expect from completing the project.
Think about improving the value of our most important resource: your AMA club flying sites.
