Radio Control: Electrics
"PLEASE INCLUDE A SASE...with any correspondence for which you'd like a reply." These or similar words should ring familiar with readers who actually make it to the end of this column each month. I know that's many of you, because I get lots of mail. But some folks miss the fact that my address really is as it appears just above on this page-I really don't live or work at HQ! While a letter sent via AMA does eventually reach me, it's faster if you send it direct.
Radio Control: Electrics
THE ELECTRIC Connection Service brings in a modeler from the First In Flight state. Don Miner, 232 Dundeve Circle, Hendersonville, NC 28792, tells me that there are very few Electric fliers and not even one formal club (including the wet kind) in his area. Additionally, there's not much in the way of fields either, and so I'm appealing on Don's behalf for all interested in that area to connect with him-especially if you have a field to share in your back pocket! Perhaps you folks can combine knowledge and resources, and develop an E-club for all to enjoy. And do let me know how it goes.

THIS MONTH'S ECS is a little different. Reader Donald Knight, 1765 Ala Moana, Apt, 1091, Honolulu HI 96815, is very much interested in CL Electrics, and he has been experimenting in this arena. In particular, Donald is interested in flying smaller models indoors or in small outdoor areas. Not having any available reference, he's pursued the idea of running power up the lines as best he could devise. Donald is asking for any written reference on the subject, and would be interested in reader contact with anyone who has the same interests. OK folks, let's show 'em the ECS really works-even with a challenging topic such as this unusual and creative Electric application!

THE JULY AND AUGUST 1991 columns announced a License Plate Contest to encourage readers to design and install Electric-promoting vanity plates on their family wheels. The contest was open to photo submissions until December 31, 1992. Entries were judged by reader vote, and the most popular won a Today's Hobbies Skyvolt kit. Five license plate photos appeared in the August '93 column. Reader votes were tallied until October 30, 1993-a few weeks ago as I write this. Reader response trickled in more or less steadily during the allowed time period. A clear winner did finally emerge: "FLY-E." The winning modeler is non other than Charlie Sylvia, Mr. CS Flight Systems himself, of Middleboro, MA. This is interesting because Connie Sylvia won one of the original (January 1990 Model Aviation cover) Skyvolts at the 1990 KRC Electric Fly raffle.

IN A RECENT LETTER, reader Jim Marinelli told me of a small group of E-fliers who fly on Wednesday evenings and Sunday mornings on a city-owned flying field in Simsbury, Connecticut. The group includes beginners and veteran modelers, and is seeking to increase their number. The field is available for Electrics only (with proper insurance-AMA, etc.). You can find out more by contacting: Jim Marinelli, 75 Rosen Ave., Torrington, CT 06790; Tel.: (203) 496-1373, or Dick Bauer, Star Route, N. Canton, CT 06059; Tel.: (203) 379-2856. Well-known east coast E-modeler Bob Afflerback tells me that the Sixth Annual Burlington County (NJ) Electric Fly is scheduled for May 21, 1994. This date is earlier than usual, so do take note. The meet is scheduled to be held at the Burlington Co. RC Club field, which is about two miles from the usual location, so note this as well.
