Radio Control: Electrics
THIS COLUMN INCLUDES the Electric Connection Service, a meet announcement, a new Electric book, a motor mount improvement, charge connectors and arming switches, and a followup on speed control chokes. Ken Cashion sent an unusual letter describing a new purpose within Electric aeromodeling: Electric flying for a specific purpose. In particular, he has become very caught-up in accomplishing specific tasks, including timed tasks, spot landings, etc.-much like the League of Silent Flight (Soaring) folks have been doing over the years. Such is part of the idea behind the League of Electric Soaring (LES) and Ken would like to share information with anyone interested. Send three first-class stamps to Ken at 157 Tennyson Cove, Picayune MS 39446; Tel.: (601) 798-5807.

THIS MONTH'S TOPICS include the Electric Connection Service (ECS), a new Electric product, a battery installation story, and an interesting incidental. It worked before, so Tyler West has requested it again. Tyler was among the earlier modelers to try out this column's ECS. Tyler has moved to 219 Bay Road, Hadley MA 01035 and he is anxious to continue "hooking up" with other E-modelers in the area. A much-needed Electric product showed up at KRC '95 in the hands of Kirk Massey of New Creations R/C (Box 496, Willis TX 77378; Tel.: [409] 856-4630): the NC-55 Pinion Gear Puller Set. I know how difficult it can be to remove pressed-on pinion gears; I'm glad to see a product directed at this task. The NC-55 is priced at $22.95 and is well worth it.

THIS COLUMN ANNOUNCES two good Electric meets and discusses some reader response, one ECS input, two new products, more on the E-Motion, a good working economy power combo for it, and revisits the Astro 110D. The 1996 BCRCC (Burlington County Radio Control Club) Electric Fly is scheduled for May 18 at the club field in Hedding NJ. This is near Burlington and is easy to get to from the NJ Turnpike and other nearby "main" roads. This year's CD is Bill Bowne (307 Colorado Tr., Browns Mills NJ 08015; Tel.: [609] 893-1095). Bill's E-mail address is [email protected]. Like previous meets, this year's event will feature open flying and some low-stress events where luck is the pilot and you fly second position! And this year's meet has been upgraded to include portable field rest facilities.
Radio Control: Electrics
AS WITH ANY other aeromodeling specialty, a great deal can be said about Electric and beginning Electric, and so no single column can ever "cover it all." Given that, what I hope to offer here are some thoughts about beginning modelers, beginning Electric modelers, and a few immediate recommendations for all newcomers to RC Electric aeromodeling. Two kinds of Electric newcomers can be distinguished: One is the newcomer to aeromodeling and to Electric; the other is the experienced modeler who's a newcomer or potential newcomer to Electric.

THIS MONTH'S TOPICS include two meet announcements, an E-club list, a new product, VRCS photo contest results, some reader survey followup, and some basic motor-control suggestions. The Voltaires of Central New York have announced their annual Electric Fun Fly for July 13-14 at the Grenadier Flying Field in Caughdenoy NY. Details of this affair can be obtained from Gordon Wheler, 4735 Ridge Rd., Cazenovia NY 13035; Tel.: (315) 655-9068; Fax (315) 655-3824. A major change in the KRC Electric Fly has been announced. This year the meet will be held at a new location about 12 miles north of the historic Quakertown site. The new location is at the Queen City Airport (not a model flying site per se). Meet dates are the traditional third (full) weekend of September: 9/21 and 9/22.
