PETE ANDREWS remembered: The first flier to post a 30-minute Indoor flight is dead; Pete Andrews passed away after a six-month illness. Pete influenced people and Indoor model design for several decades, winning many Nats events and other awards. Finally, he almost retired from modeling because there seemed to be no challenges left. Frank Cummings, another modeling pioneer and longtime friend, convinced Pete to tackle FAI Indoor. Then, in 1972 Pete became Indoor World Champion after posting flights of 36:12 and 34:57, 1:34 ahead of Czech flier Karol Rybecky.

LIVING Room Stick postal results: The 1992 version of the world's most popular postal meet ended after 117 contestants from 11 countries had posted flights in sites with ceiling heights ranging from 62 feet to 7.97 feet. Each flight score was modified by a carefully developed fudge factor to compensate for ceiling height differences. Here's how it came out after dropping multiple entries by individual fliers: Flier, Country, Ceiling, Raw Score (Sec.), Final Score (Sec.) Gary Hunter, U.S.A., 23.20, 430, 693.9

A LIGHT is gone. Louisville, Kentucky felt the loss first, but we all will miss Burr Stanton. Early this year Burr succumbed to a very aggressive cancer only a few weeks after diagnosis. Burr's association with Indoor began with the NIMAS-sponsored contests at West Baden and continued until his death. He was a very active and effective leader for the activity in Louisville, and he published a newsletter that enlightened more than just his local group. We will all miss his influence and enthusiasm.

Summer Indoor? For almost 30 years, I have been hoping that more people would learn how great it is to fly Indoor during the summer instead of limiting it to when cold weather and other winter hassles rule. As you can see by reading the "Flying Opportunities" section further on in this month's column, summer Indoor is bustin' out all over! I have preliminary information about programs which may result in increased site availability and more opportunities to fly year-round. More on that if it works out. Who are you? Note that one important factor is common to many of these summer sessions advance notice and entry lists. In some cases, the list is for security; in other cases the meet may be cancelled with little notice, and expected participants may have to be notified. Be sure you are expected; verify that the meet is still being held before you leave home!

AND IN THE center ring: Well, it isn't a three-ring circus. It's more fun! In a reprise of the events of 1988, the 1990 edition of Johnson City Indoor competition includes the 1990 Indoor World Championships (June 4-6) and the 1990 NFFS U.S. Indoor Champs (June 7-9). There's more-running concurrently with the USIC is the 1990 AMA Indoor Nats. The NFFS crew has a solid track record under the unequaled leadership of Tony Italiano. If you haven't made plans to go, get to it! Send a business-sized SASE to Tony Italiano for entry forms. His address is 1655 Revere Dr., Brookfield, WI 53005.
