Summer Indoor: Besides the activities listed in the previous column, there was significant activity in the Northwest. Unfortunately, the announcement was mailed in mid-May - two weeks too late to be included with the other announcements. It was the Summer Indoor Meet and Symposium sponsored by the Willamette Modelers Club at the South Albany High School, July 7-8, 1990. The Symposium program included presentations by Andy Tagliafico, Lew Gitlow, and Bruce Kimball. Let's hope that future events will be planned far enough ahead to allow them to be announced here. To be fair about it, the contest part of this event was announced in the "Sanctioned Events Calendar" in MA, but there are so many listings and so few Indoor events that only a dedicated search would have found it.

MINI-STICK LIVES AND BREEDS! No one was very surprised when Mini-Stick became not one, but two unofficial events at the Nats/USIC meet at Johnson City, Tennessee. Two mass launch events (sponsored by Doc Martin's MIAMA group) were won by Tom Vallee and John Triolo respectively, but the Duration event, sponsored by Burr Stanton's Indoor Model Association of River City (INMARC), showed the real promise of this design concept. The top three times were: Tom Vallee-9:07, Tony d'Alessandro-8:55, and Laurie Barr (England) 8:26.

THE FAI EASY B event set, a new Indoor class (F1L-Indoor EZB model) has been announced. This event has provisional status with FAI, which essentially means that it will not be formally added to the FAI Sporting Code until the next printing (1994). The model specifications for the new event correspond exactly to AMA Easy B except that this class has a minimum 1.2-gram weight limit. Flight rules specify scoring on the best two of six flights.

USIC SCHEDULES: Most of you planning to attend the 1991 USIC/AMA Nationals at Johnson City have received and returned entry blanks containing an event schedule. Please be advised that the Ornithopter and Federation ROG events have been rescheduled in the interests of better model safety. FROG rules: At the request of CD Tony Italiano, some changes have been made in the Federation ROG rules. The following restriction has been added: "The length of the model from the front of the propeller to the rearmost part must not be greater than 18 inches."

SAD NEWS! Frank Kieser, who was taking over publication of Indoor News and Views, has had a stroke and is partially paralyzed. Frank is now into the rehabilitation center and doing fairly well. He would welcome cards and letters of encouragement; send them to 2595 Whippoorwill Lane, Vero Beach FL 32960. The USIC Lives! Tony Italiano is taking a well-earned retirement from running the NFFS-sponsored U.S. Indoor Championships. He has served well, and far longer than we had a right to expect. In spite of fairly high expenses, the meet has approached break-even status. For the meet to continue after 1992, attendance must continue to grow. Meanwhile, the event is set for June 4-7, 1992 at the Minidome of East Tennessee State University in Johnson City, Tennessee.
