Electroflight World Champs
THE SECOND F3E World Championships was held on the campus of Parks College of St. Louis University in Cahokia, IL from August 15 through 20, 1988. In addition to the World Championships, other Electric events were flown in the five days preceding the F3E competition. The non-World-Championship-contest was called the First American Continents Championships (ACC).
F3E World Champs
THE THIRD edition of the F3E FAI World Championships was held August 6th through 12th in Freistadt, Upper Austria. Eleven countries sent a total of 33 pilots to compete in this most prestigious of world Electric contests. Freistadt is a picturesque walled medieval city in the Muhlviertel, a section of Austria known, with good reason, as "The Land of Enchantment." Much like the central United States, the Muhlviertel is predominantly beautiful rolling farmland with scattered patches of forest. Competitors flew off the private Lolf airfield, located on a plateau about eight miles from the city. The airport was closed to accommodate the competition.
U.S. Team Wins RC Electroflight World Championships
HOSTS for the fourth World Championships for Electric Aeromodeling (FAI F3E) were the Aeromodeling Division of the Royal Netherlands Aeronautical Association and the city of Arnhem-Papendal. When the August 16-23 event was over, Rudolf Freudenthaler of Austria retained his World Championships crown, with Jerry Bridgeman of the U.S. running a close second, only four points off the pace. Jason Perrin of the United States placed third, trailing Bridgeman by 21 points. Urs Leodolter of Switzerland finished in fourth place. It was crowded at the top! With Steve Neu's strong ranking of seventh out of 39 competitors from 13 nations, U.S. pilots took the team honors with a solid win for the U.S.
Electroflight World Championships
Many have felt that electric-powered modeling came into its own years ago. Now, with the completion of this event in Belgium, the world has added its confirmation. After a remarkably short infancy, Electric flight has developed and blossomed. This was demonstrated to the world at the Militky Memorial Electric Flight Festival Week held in Lommel, Belgium August 22-30.
