RADIO CONTROL SLOPE SOARING - 2005/03
THREE SLOPE SOARING events for 2005 have been
announced as of this writing just before the winter solstice. The
contact information for each follows, as do updates on two
project airplanes mentioned in previous columns. Last, I have a
list of sources for Slope Soaring kits and sailplanes in case you
need a model or two for spring flying.
Radio Control Slope Soaring - 2008/08
IN THE GREAT Northeast we have wind and plenty of hills, but
so often they are covered with trees. We have suitable terrain and
plenty of wind for Slope Soaring, but trees keep the pilot from
seeing the sky and rob us of landing areas.
Finding slope sites in New York and New England generally
means looking for hills with clearings. Another characteristic of a
great flying site is water in front of the hill. Wind passing over
water is smoother than wind passing over terrain, and it makes for
smoother lift. We like flying with an ocean, a lake, or a river out
front.
Midwest Slope Challenge 2008 - 2009/04
THE MIDWEST Slope Challenge (MWSC)
is the longest continually running RC
Slope Soaring event in the US. The 15th
annual edition, held May 15-18 last year,
hosted 25 pilots from Colorado, Illinois,
Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, New York,
Tennessee, Texas, and Nassau, Bahamas.
RC Flight Training with EPP-Foam Slope Sailplanes - 2003/09
WHAT IF YOU have potential Radio Control (RC) fliers who don’t
have the time it takes to learn to fly via traditional methods? Maybe
their work or school schedules don’t allow sufficient recreational time.
Maybe if it takes too long for them to fly their first loop or roll, they
will lose interest in the learning process.
