S.A.I. = 207

THE ORIGINAL inspiration for this model came from my MIAMA clubmate Doc Martin's 13-inch-span Peanut Scale version published in his Hangar Pilot newsletter. The one I built flew great, until someone stole it along with other Peanuts. Looking for a classy design to build as a 16-inch No-Cal profile Scale, I came across the old Ambrosini S.A.I. 207 plans. All I had to do was enlarge them on a copy machine and start building. The full-scale Italian prototype was finished in red overall with black-and-white markings-just the thing for red Japanese tissue covering and photocopy bond insignia. The plan is the artwork.

1991 Indoor Nats

THE 10TH annual U.S. Indoor Championships was held June 6-9, 1991 at East Tennessee State University, Johnson City, Tennessee. Twenty-six events were flown under the 116-ft. ceiling of the awesome ETSU Mini-Dome. There's a spirit to this event that's a complex blend of one of the world's great Indoor sites, the ETSU campus (where many fliers lodged at the dorm), and that well-known Johnson City southern hospitality.

LA-5FN

MAYBE you're looking for a simple weekend project that will give a high return of fun for very little building time? Members of the Flying Aces Club sought just that when they came up with the FAC NoCal event, which has become popular nationwide among sport and competition modelers. Flown either outdoors (at the FAC Nats) or indoors (U.S. Indoor Champs), the models created under the simple rules are attractive and give satisfying flights. Rules limit wingspan to 16 in., allow profile fuselages and single-surface covering, and permit gear-up flying if the original had retractables. Rubber power and ready-made plastic props provide the motive force.

Free Flight: Duration

JUST THOUGHT I'd let you know: For those of you who noted my Jeddah, Saudi Arabia address in the May and September 1990 "FF Duration" columns, you will be happy to know that I am back in Florida and safe from Saddam-except at the gas pump! Lucky Pierre: This astounding tale exemplifying the spirit of Free Flight comes from David Hodges, Black Sheep Exhibition Squadron flier from Visalia, CA. When the San Diego Orbiteers created the P-30 concept, did they have this in mind?

Free Flight: Duration

Mister Nats' unofficial events: Those FFers who enjoy the less popular events such as Payload, Cargo, Rubber Speed, Helicopter, Autogyro, Biplane Rubber, etc. can thank Terry Rimert of Florida for running those events at the AMA Nats in recent years. I believe he deserves recognition for his efforts, which have been largely unsung. Those of us who enjoy competition often forget all the planning and organization required to run even a simple event - and Contest Directors rarely get the fun of flying in events they run. Terry began FF modeling at the age of seven, building Comet kits independent of any adult help. In high school he was attracted to Control Line models, an activity that continued into his Navy days. After a brief time racing motorcycles, he returned to Control Line and FF Hand-Launched Glider. He has run the Nats unofficial events for the National Free Flight Society (NFFS) since 1979 - a decade of dedication.
