comment about the lack of young fliers or
the loss of flying sites. These problems are
important, and we should be looking for
ways to improve present conditions.

Metropolitan Sport Squadron came up
with a double-barreled approach that
may help solve both problems and
should be useful to other clubs.

Do we really have to give up on getting kids interested in modeling? They show up at Delta Dart or Canarsie Canary building sessions, get all excited about flying their own models, and never come back. I've held a dozen classes and contests in various schools with youngsters from 10 to 13, with only minor success. Perhaps the romance of flight is simply no match for TV games, RC cars, and computer networks. Last year, Walt Schwarz and I decided to try a new approach-this time with a different age group. We reasoned that high-school students with a better attention span and an interest in technology offered a better profile for the problem-solving aspects of modeling.
