The Big Bird Fly in Texas
WHERE ELSE could a modeler see five B-17 models flying in formation? The Bomber Field organization did an outstanding job of promoting its fourth annual Big Bird Fly-In. From September 18 to September 20, 1992, B-17s from Arkansas, Iowa, Louisiana, Missouri, and all parts of Texas converged at Bomber Field in Monaville, Texas. The 150 pilots from 10 different states entered approximately 225 aircraft.

FAREWELL to all my loyal friends and readers! I would like to express my thanks and appreciation to those who took time to write concerning your interest in model aviation. This column will conclude my 12-year tenure in writing the Speed column. During this time I have made quite a few friends and feel a sense of loyalty to many of you. This month's column will cover some of the letters received from many modelers across the world. Also, I would like to discuss what it takes to develop a two-cycle engine for commercial and military application.
B-17 Gathering & Big Bird Fly-In
The combined appeal of a B-17 Flying Fortress fleet and Big Bird Fly-In drew about 180 miniature aircraft fliers and over 200 models to Bomber Field last September for the 1991 edition of the biggest RC meet in the Houston, Texas area. From September 20-22, 1991, about 180 pilots gathered at Monaville, Texas's Bomber Field for the Bomber Field organization's third annual Gathering of B-17 Flying Fortresses, held in conjunction with its annual Big Bird Fly-In.

BEFORE I start rambling among many subjects in this month's Speed column, I would like to express my thanks and appreciation to all Speed modelers and readers across the world who have taken time to write. The first noteworthy item concerns the European Championships held in England July 8-12 at the Three Sisters Flying Field. Although the date is just shortly after this issue of MA is in the hands of readers, it may be timely for some of you. For those who are planning a holiday in Europe, this would offer an opportunity to visit with the international Speed fliers. It would be nice to see some American Speed fliers there.
