Radio Control Combat - 20007/07
ONE ADVANTAGE Southern fliers have
over Northern fliers is that Combat contests
can be held much earlier—and much later—
in the year.

THERE IS NOTHING like Paris in the
springtime—Paris, Texas, that is! Every
spring the Paris R/C Association hosts the
first event in the North Texas Round Robin
series of Combat meets. Paris, Texas, bills
itself as being the second largest Paris in
the world. The town even has its own
version of the Eiffel Tower—although the
65-foot-tall version is topped off in true
Texan style sporting a 10-foot-wide
cowboy hat!

AS YOU MAY
have noticed, I took
a hiatus from the
Combat column for
the last several
issues. I (and the MA
editorial staff) have
received E-mails and
telephone calls from readers who were concerned about the missing
columns. I want to apologize for their absence and explain the reason.

WHEN PEOPLE think about Radio Control (RC) Combat today,
most think of Scale and Open Class B. Although Open Class B is
by far the most popular form of RC Combat flown in the United
States today, the Radio Control Combat Association (RCCA) rules
actually define four different classes of Open Combat.

IT HAS BEEN awhile since I reviewed any RC Combat kit
manufacturers. Now is a good time to do that because in addition to all
of the time that has passed since the last review, many changes have
happened in the field.
RC Combat remains a rapidly growing event, and with that comes a
large influx of new ideas from the RC Combat community. Although it
is good that we are growing, that growth brings instability. Several
excellent kit manufacturers have invested in supplying kits to the RC
Combat community, but unfortunately the instability has affected them
as well. Several manufacturers have decided to get out of the kit
industry, either by selling their businesses or by closing their doors. In
no place is this more apparent than in RC Scale Combat.
