NFFS NEWS. At this writing (in April), the aforementioned reorganization of the NFFS is proceeding per plan. Bob Stalick has volunteered to head the nominating committee for the five elected offices of president and four regional vice presidential positions. The Nostalgia Gas Advisory Board now has the intended four members with Bob Larsh representing the northeast quadrant of the country, Ron Sharpton the southeast, Ralph Prey the southwest, and Bob Stalick the northwest. Terry Thorkildsen is our new NFFS Technical Director; Dick Lyons requested he be permitted to resign for personal reasons after about a month in the saddle at that post.
1991 AMA/NFFS: National Champs
FREE FLIGHT's portion of the annual AMA/NFFS Nationals seemed to pop up rather suddenly on our '91 calendars since it was just last October that the 1990 edition was held at the Lawrenceville, Illinois site. The mid-June dates for this year had been suggested by the NFFS last fall with the idea of pre-empting summer farm crop problems and, it was hoped, easing vacation situations for some, plus enabling the participants to use the dormitories at Vincennes University. The lovely VU campus lies nestled next to the Wabash River just north of downtown Vincennes, which is only a few miles east of Illinois across the Red Skelton Bridge. The new VU dorms were quite elegant and comfortable according to the many contestants who stayed in them during that week.

AT THIS WRITING the 1991 AMA Free Flight NATS has just been completed at the Mid American Air Center near Lawrenceville, Illinois. Since a complete review is scheduled for next month's issue, I shall only make a few comments in passing. The five-day bash saw near perfect flying weather with winds extremely light or nil for the entire week. The crop situation, while not the greatest, proved tolerable, and the planners and field operating crews get kudos for a smooth running affair. This was another AMA/NFFS cooperative effort and included three days of S.A.M. events sponsored by the SAM 57 Chapter and FAC-staged flying scale events on a pair of days during the week. In toto, a great week of free flight!

FREE FLIGHT IN 1992. The upcoming 1992 Free Flight flying season promises a very heavy schedule. First off, the last word at this writing is that the USFFC (United States Free Flight Championships), which has had its roots firmly implanted at Taft over the Memorial Day weekends for the past 20 years, is suddenly uprooting and moving to the Labor Day weekend at nearby Lost Hills. Some of the reasoning is that Taft is getting smaller and overfly conditions aren't what they used to be. Then, too, Lost Hills supposedly has better flying weather in the late summer.

1991 AMA FF NATIONALS. The NFFS proposed last October that the Free Flight portion of the 1991 AMA Nationals be held in the third week of June at Lawrenceville, Illinois. The AMA Executive Council confirmed the date late in January. I, for one, surely do hope we can eventually get to the point of planning for these annual get-togethers early enough to allow a year of lead time. It would be helpful and a lot less frustrating for all concerned.
