The Inside Loop - 2008/02

The other day my youngest son,
Jacob, asked me to make him
breakfast.
“What do you want?” I asked.
“I don’t know; surprise me!” he replied,
after which he went upstairs to get dressed
and brush his teeth. He returned to the
kitchen to find a boiling-hot pot on the stove.

I can’t drive to work without checking out
all the open fields along the way for
ground conditions and prevailing winds.
Many times I’ll take the long way to a
destination for the change of scenery, of
course, but also to see what other potential
flying sites might be around the neighborhood.
If you appreciate the environment, you can fly
from just about anywhere.

Friends have sent me fantastic links to
Web sites that depict the 1920s and
1930s with stunning imagery. You
know what? It doesn’t look like those days
were all that golden, since that was when the
Great Depression took place. However, that
time period is the age in which we proclaim
that aviation was in its “Golden Era.”
