The Inside Loop - 2009/12
It won’t take a long look at the cover or
the contents page of this issue to see
that there’s a theme going on, and that
the theme this time is RC helicopters. I’m
distinct in this case, because I know that
there are Free Flight modelers out there who
have experience with automatic-flight
helicopters.
Plane Talk: Dymond Modelsport Bearcat ARF
A 40-size
sport-scale
version of the
US Navy’s
ultimate World
War II pursuit
fighter. IT SEEMS THAT if a person wants a
realistic ARF warbird, he or she needs to look
at something that is roughly 60 size to find the
most options. Little is offered in 40 size
unless the modeler is looking for a Mustang
or a Texan. If an enthusiast wants to get into
heavy-metal warbirds, does that mean he or
she has to move up to a bigger model?
Convention 2006 - 2006/04
THE PROMOTION OF aeromodeling
takes many forms. We see it in the products
offered by manufacturers, the SIGs that
moderate competitions and events, and
especially in the everyday modeler who
comes out to show off a new aircraft
creation.
The Inside Loop - 2008/01
All I’ve ever wanted to do is build
model airplanes. As a kid I seemed
pretty good with my hands, so I
built a lot of plastic model kits. They hung
from my ceiling in ridiculous groupings of
ragtag squadrons, and were never the same
scale. Ever see a Cessna 172 lead a diamond
formation with an F-16, Dauntless, Nieuport
11, and Starship Enterprise? It was my world
and I could do whatever I wanted.
The Inside Loop - 2009/11
Just as the EAA has its annual gathering
in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, we of the AMA
have our annual Nats competition. Both
of these pilgrimages include thousands of
participants that cover an immense grassy area
where aircraft of all types loom. It’s applause
time!
