OLD-TIMERS - 2005/04

IN THE DEPRESSION era and the years immediately prior to
World War II, many modelers longed to build and fly the large
gas-powered FF models of the day but could not afford an engine
or perhaps didn’t want to build something that size. Thus several
manufacturers, notably the Scientific Company, offered “Gas
Type” rubber-powered models designed to provide “all the thrills
of gas model flight.”

OLD-TIMERS - 2003/11

AS THE LEAVES change color and the
temperature drops (in some parts of the
country, anyway), we prepare for that timehonored
tradition known as The Building
Season. It’s time once again to wash and
bag those rubber motors, drain those fuel
tanks, and clear off those workbenches.
There’s nothing like a fresh supply of light
balsa and #11 blades to get the juices
flowing.

OLD-TIMERS - 2004/05

WELCOME BACK, Old-Time (OT) modelers. I wrote this
installment on New Year’s Eve, thus it may be a bit dated by the time it
reaches your mailbox. Because of the lead time, and the fact that this
column is bimonthly, we are often “scooped” by other publications.
Although some items I present here could hardly be called “news,” I’ll
do my best to keep it interesting and informative. (See Bob Hunt’s
February column [on page 7] on that subject.)
