model with the right
combination of looks

MY PURPOSE IN designing this Mustang was to develop
a midsize model that could be powered with engines in the
.46 to .53 range so handling in the wind would not be a
chore for a person my size. In stiff winds the larger 60-
size airplanes pull my 140-pound frame around more than
I prefer.
Gee Bee R-2
Widow Maker, Flying Coffin, Death Trap, and Killer Bee are nicknames that were given to the Gee Bee R-1 and R-2. Delmar Benjamin and his replica R-2 have put to rest the the notion that Gee Bees do not fly well. They have performed at air shows across the US, including pylon demonstrations at the Reno Air Races. After watching the R-2, people come away with a whole new appreciation for Gee Bees. My model of the R-2 draws attention because of its crowd-pleasing appearance, and it is respected when performing as the Stunt model it was designed to be.
QED 500
The QED 500 is designed as a dual purpose model to compete in Profile Scale and to be flown as an intermediate Stunt model. Its inspiration was derived while doing research on my Gee Bee R-2 (Mid May 1996). Jim Dunerell of New York has successfully competed in Profile Scale with his version of Sarabia's QED. Jim installed a three-line throttle control system. Windy ???? graciously provided me with videos of Jim flying his model in competition. How's that for a good ???? This is the kind of great people we have in the ???? community. CONSTRUCTION A word about glues is in order here. ???? (CyA) adhesives work great on balsa, presuming that a light joint is first established. Only use the thinnest CyA here. Do not use thick CyA to bridge a poor joint. If a piece does not fit correctly enough to ensure a good glue joint, throw the piece away and make a new one.
P-40K
The Curtiss P-40 represented the classic American fighter aircraft at the onset of World War II. Influence from racing airplanes of the '30s gave the P-40 its good looks. When the American Volunteer Group (AVG) painted on the shark mouth as its defining logo, the P-40 became the essence of a fighter in the public's mind. My purpose in designing this model was to create a competitive machine that has a good degree of charisma effect. Many top-notch Stunters are available, but do not stand out as anything much different from the rest. This is not a Scale model, but I have taken into consideration some details that help define this as a P-40K. My philosophy is to create the illusion of scale without actually having to be scale; the observer has to believe that what he/she is looking at is a P-40. General shapes, details, and the color scheme complete this illusion.
