Radio Control Scale - 2011/03
WACO, OR THE Weaver Aircraft Company, manufactured
personal and business airplanes under several company names from
1919 until 1947. The company built not only biplanes, but also
monoplane gliders that were flown by the Allied forces in World
War II.

George Maiorana brought a new airplane to the Weak Signals’
Toledo Show and to Top Gun this year. It is a model of an aircraft I
haven’t seen before, but it looks familiar. Before static judging at
Top Gun, George was still adding parts to the aircraft. Talk about
waiting until the last minute!
Top Gun 2003/09
In its second year at Lakeland Linder Regional Airport in
Lakeland, Florida—the same site as the Experimental
Aircraft Association’s Sun ’n Fun full-scale fly-in—Top
Gun was held April 23-27. Sun ’n Fun was held a few
weeks earlier, with all kinds of great subjects for Scale
modelers. Just off of runway 9, the Florida Air Museum
offers year-round access to modeling subjects and homebuilt
aircraft.

BY THE TIME you read this, many will be geared up for the AMA
Nationals, which is the largest competitive modeling event in the
world. RC Scale plays a part in this event each year, with both RC
and CL classes held at AMA’s International Aeromodeling Center in
Muncie, Indiana. This year the events will be contested August 8-10.
If you are a newer reader you might ask, “Why Muncie, Indiana,
of all places?” Before the property where AMA Headquarters now
resides was purchased, a study was conducted. The results showed
that the largest percentage of AMA members lived within a 500-
mile radius of this
general area, and to
my knowledge they
still do.

SELECTING A distinctive color scheme for any
Scale model can be a challenge, and the older the
airplane, the more challenging the project can be.
But that can also be a lot of the fun.
