How to Carve Giant Scale Props
THE PURPOSE of this article is to provide basic information that will allow you to make your own Giant Scale props. All mathematical formulas and theory are intentionally omitted. Tools. Our props are shaped with a band saw, 12-in. disc sander, and a 3-in. drum sander mounted in a drill press. Many of you will not have access to these tools, so we have some alternatives to suggest. If you can't do it yourself, find someone to cut your prop blanks (from straight-grained, hard maple). You can use a 5/16-in. drill bit (preferably mounted in a drill press), and you'll need to have some method for removing wood from the prop blank-and a High Point balancer (or equal).
