OLD-TIMERS - 2014/10
Competition comes in various intensities. Many forms of competition require you to devote most of your life to it for any degree of success. A shot at the Olympics, for example, takes years of effort and monetary outlay. Slack off, and all is lost. Few of us are into that.
OLD-TIMERS
Let’s conclude the cause-and-cure discussion about virtual adverse yaw that began in the June column. I described the climbout of a rudder-elevator (no ailerons) Old-Timer RC aircraft that was behaving oddly. The airplane was climbing out in a right turn as planned, but with the left wing low.

I attended the Southwest Regionals Model Airplane Championships again this year. January weather in Eloy, Arizona, was comfortable for flying. The AMA/FAI/Society of Antique Modelers (SAM) FF field was relocated roughly a mile farther away from the SAM RC area. This made comingling more difficult, but safety was improved and the RC fliers had a shorter drive from the paved road.

Hangar talk and club newsletters produce some interesting stories. Most are humorous, while others also contain important safety warnings.

Early modeling magazines are always a source of interest to Old-Timer (OT) modelers. Most of us like to peruse them, but few care to store them. A few get resold, but many are being given away or going out in the trash every day. At a recent contest banquet, Steve Remington passed out some old magazine issues as door prizes for each attendee.
