Radio Control: Electrics

THIS MONTH'S COLUMN includes discussion on a new belt drive, supplemental info on Electric suppliers and catalogs, and measuring and using motor voltage and current information. Late-breaking news: The Dallas Electric Aircraft Fliers (DEAF) announces its tenth annual Electric Fly-In October 5-6. Contact Contest Director Frank Korman, 9354 Forest Hills Blvd., Dallas TX 75218; Tel.: (214) 327-8411. The E-modelers at ModelAir-Tech, Bob Aberle and Tom Hunt, have recently introduced the latest addition to their growing product line-a "baby" version of their well-known larger belt drives. The new drive is intended to be used with a wide variety of "smaller" motors such as the Speed 500/600 series, Astro .035 thru .15, SR Max 7 and 10, etc.

THIS COLUMN INCLUDES information on a fall meet, a new catalog, more reader mail re: the E-Motion / power system, and a new connector. Paul Perret (1780 Prytania St., New Orleans LA 70130; Tel.: [504] 524-3442) is CD for the 8th Annual Gulf States Electric Fly. This year's meet, sponsored by the Ozone RC Club, is set for Oct. 26-27 at the Louisiana Polo Field near Goodbee LA. Both days feature fun flying plus some serious competitive opportunity for those so inclined. The field will be open Friday for early arrivals. Hobby Lobby (5614 Franklin Pike Circle, Brentwood TN 37027; Tel.: [615] 373-1444) recently released their latest catlog (#27) and as in the past it contains numerous new Electric items. I just don't know how these folks continue to expand their E-product line with such inceasingly large leaps and bounds!

THIS MONTH'S COLUMN is an overview of the most-frequently asked reader questions. Frustrated or maybe "disappointed" is often how I feel when readers write with questions on matters just recently covered in this column. It's as though I just didn't do a good job of covering a given subject-time and time again. And it's not just "readers" (people "out there, somewhere") but even local folks who do this to me! I've learned to live with this by accepting that there are always new E-modelers, and that folks just can't remember everything.

THIS COLUMN ANNOUNCES two good Electric meets and discusses some reader response, one ECS input, two new products, more on the E-Motion, a good working economy power combo for it, and revisits the Astro 110D. The 1996 BCRCC (Burlington County Radio Control Club) Electric Fly is scheduled for May 18 at the club field in Hedding NJ. This is near Burlington and is easy to get to from the NJ Turnpike and other nearby "main" roads. This year's CD is Bill Bowne (307 Colorado Tr., Browns Mills NJ 08015; Tel.: [609] 893-1095). Bill's E-mail address is [email protected]. Like previous meets, this year's event will feature open flying and some low-stress events where luck is the pilot and you fly second position! And this year's meet has been upgraded to include portable field rest facilities.

THIS MONTH'S TOPICS include the Electric Connection Service (ECS), a new Electric product, a battery installation story, and an interesting incidental. It worked before, so Tyler West has requested it again. Tyler was among the earlier modelers to try out this column's ECS. Tyler has moved to 219 Bay Road, Hadley MA 01035 and he is anxious to continue "hooking up" with other E-modelers in the area. A much-needed Electric product showed up at KRC '95 in the hands of Kirk Massey of New Creations R/C (Box 496, Willis TX 77378; Tel.: [409] 856-4630): the NC-55 Pinion Gear Puller Set. I know how difficult it can be to remove pressed-on pinion gears; I'm glad to see a product directed at this task. The NC-55 is priced at $22.95 and is well worth it.
