RADIO CONTROL ELECTRICS - 2003/01

This column includes two Electric Connection Service
(ECS) requests, shares an Electric Free Flight story, includes
commentary for beginners which might be titled “ARF! ARF! ARF!”
or “Who Let These E-Dogs out?” followed by my idea of a muchneeded
E-product.
Fred marion (511 Liberty St., Lawton MI 49065; Tel.: [616] 624-
1195) wrote to describe a small Electric club based in Kalamazoo,
Michigan, called “ERM” which is derived from “Electric Powered
Radio Control Model Airplane Club” and has five members.
The club publishes a sizable monthly newsletter which includes
selected extracts (published with permission) from Model Airplane
News, Sailplane & Electric Modeler, and Flying Models. You can get
more info about ERM and a sample newsletter from Fred, who is club
president. As I write this, newsletter distribution is at 15—three times
larger than the club! Be sure to tell Fred Bob sent ya!

This column announces a meet, lists
two Electric Connection Service readers,
shares more information about the Universal
Slow Charger (USC), and discusses
mounting small servos.
colin mcKinley, an active E-enthusiast
from “way back,” wrote to tell me about the
(North Carolina) Triad Electric Weekend
scheduled for May 5-6.
This meet is hosted by two clubs: the
RAMS on May 5 and the Winston-Salem
Radio Control Club Inc. on May 6. Each club
will use its own field for the day specified, but
both fields are available Friday, and both have
primitive camping and generators.
The RAMS Contest Director (CD) is
Nat Shepard ([704] 633-1788) and the
W-SRCC CD is Colin McKinley ([336]
924-5890). The meet(s) coordinator is
John Mountjoy ([336] 722-7609; E-mail:
[email protected])—another longestablished
E-aeromodeler and former
co-author of an Electric Column in RC
Report magazine.
Each day has lots of flying activity planned,
beginning with “continuous flying.” Other fun
activities include Biggest Model, Smallest
Model, Best Original, AULD (All-Up/Last
Down), and Wingo Racing, to name a few.
These activities vary during the two
days, so get the meet mailer from someone
listed above. And do tell ’em Bob sent ya!

RADIO CONTROL ELECTRICS - 2001/03

ThiS moNTh’S column will cover a
popular E-supplier business change, a new
E-catalog, a new pinion press, some
common power system questions, and some
E-conversion considerations.
modelair-Tech (MAT) is a popular supplier
of E-products, including a unique line of
belt drives and “stick” kits. I have and I fly
several MAT products, and they show up in
large numbers at meets.
Tom Hunt, head modeler at MAT,
recently advised that his products will no
longer be available direct, as they have in
the past. MAT goodies will only be retailed
by familiar names, such as New Creations
R/C and others to be named.
Tom made this change to allow more
time for new product design and
development, which is something he does
extremely well. However, MAT will
continue to offer assistance in product
selection for a given application.
Contact MAT at Box 1467, Lake Grove
NY 11755-0867; Tel./Fax: (631) 981-0372;
E-mail: [email protected]. You can
also check out www.modelairtech.com for
more information on this announcement and
complete product catalog information.

RADIO CONTROL ELECTRICS - 2001/02

ThIS coluMN will cover a meet announcement, the Electric
Connection Service, some USC reader inputs, using LEDs, and
writing to me.
The Mid-Winter Electric Festival, as presented by the Silent
Electric Flyers of San Diego (SEFSD) for the past several years, is
scheduled for February 16-18, 2001, at Mission Bay CA.
This meet is presented by Hitec RCD, SEFSD, and Model Airplane
News, and it will be loaded with events and demonstrations,
substantial prizes, supplier booths, and more. An added feature is two
days of Indoor flying in a nearby facility.
For more information, go to www.sefsd.org; contact Bill Everitt
at (760) 753 1055; Fax: (760) 633 2271; E-mail: [email protected];
or call Glen at (858) 747 6948, ext 310. Tell ’em Bob sent ya!
The electric connection Service (ECS) is a free column feature,
intended to help E-modelers hook up with other E-modelers in
their vicinity.
Dick Gum, 26828 Racquet Cir., Leesburg FL 34746-8083, is
seeking others to help him get started in E-power.
The ECS generally works very well, and I’m counting on this
edition to work well too.
Anyone anywhere who is seeking to be so connected, just write me!
