NEAT

The first Northeast Electric Aircraft Technology fair (NEAT)
was held September 22-24, 2000 at the Peaceful Valley
Campsite in Downsville NY.
This site is in a corner of the Catskill Mountains, along the east
branch of the Delaware River. It is located just off Route 30,
approximately 10 miles north of the intersection of NY Routes 17
and 30 (Exit 90). It was very easy to find. (You will want these
details for next year!)
The area in general is “outdoorsy,” with small towns and
motels/cabins spread along Route 17. One nearby location is
described as the “trout fishing capital of the world.”
Since this is a generally mountainous setting, one naturally
wonders where one might fly there. Not to worry!
The region has much to offer as a family vacation site (keep that
in mind for next year). There were families with kids on-site, which
is always nice to see.

RADIO CONTROL ELECTRICS - 2001/01

ThIS MonTh’S column will cover an “SSC
Champion,” USC reader reaction, hobby project
panel labels, an easy foam-repair technique,
small airplane pushrod adjustments, and a
quarter-century-old Electric model resurrected.
The often-mentioned Sport Speed Control
(SSC) construction article (9/99, 10/99 MA)
has brought a wide array of reader comments
and questions, but a new piece of
correspondence stands apart.
In the May 2000 issue, I wrote about a
reader who had built three SSCs at once—
quite a leap of faith. Since then, I met a reader
at a meet who told me he also built three
SSCs.
Now those stories have been topped; the
first reader I mentioned reported building six
additional SSCs, for a grand total of nine! I
have no choice but to pronounce him “Grand
SSC Champion”!

THIS COLUMN LISTS one Electric-Connection Service (ECS), announces one meet, describes a new book, shares reader reaction to recent presentations, has parts update information about the Universal Slow Charger, and presents what might be the "Ultimate Conversion"—a story which "more senior" readers should thoroughly enjoy! Bill Welch, an associate professor of pathology, tells me he's a novice in E-power and is seeking to connect with others of the E-persuasion. During the week Bill

RC Electrics

THIS COLUMN OFFERS a club reference, updates information about chokes, shares some 12-volt bench-supply info, and continues the "beginners' topics" section. Charles Varvaro, Box 694, Norco CA 92860, wrote to tell me of his club, the La Sierra Slope Soarers. Although the name does not suggest this. Electrics are part of the normal club activity. Charles invites you to visit the club Web site at www.lsss.homestead.com for varied info including a flying-site map.

Radio Control: Electrics

THIS COLUMN INCLUDES information on a fall meet, a new catalog, more reader mail re: the E-Motion / power system, and a new connector. Paul Perret (1780 Prytania St., New Orleans LA 70130; Tel.: [504] 524-3442) is CD for the 8th Annual Gulf States Electric Fly. This year's meet, sponsored by the Ozone RC Club, is set for Oct. 26-27 at the Louisiana Polo Field near Goodbee LA. Both days feature fun flying plus some serious competitive opportunity for those so inclined. The field will be open Friday for early arrivals. Hobby Lobby (5614 Franklin Pike Circle, Brentwood TN 37027; Tel.: [615] 373-1444) recently released their latest catlog (#27) and as in the past it contains numerous new Electric items. I just don't know how these folks continue to expand their E-product line with such inceasingly large leaps and bounds!
