Finally … some decent weather has arrived! And along with it the “official” beginning of the outdoor flying season for many of us. Early indications are that it’s going to be a busy year. AMA sanctioned events are trending up for 2014 and anecdotal evidence suggests that the number of flying events across the country are on the rise.

The trade show season is over and it won’t be long before people in every part of the country are outside enjoying the flying season. Let’s hope this season is kinder to us than the winter we’ve just experienced.

Well, I think the only way to describe this past winter is as “a winter to remember.” Living in the Northeast for most of my life, I’m pretty much used to the snow and cold temperatures and just “deal with it.” However, this recent winter pushed the boundaries of even that philosophy.

In January, at the AMA Expo in Ontario, California, we launched the AMA Foundation. The AMA Foundation will play an important role in our organization’s future. The foundation will manage an endowment that will support AMA programming going forward.

I’ve been a modeler for a long time. I flew my first model airplane as a kid with my dad in 1960. My first radio system was a hand-me-down. The transmitter sat on the ground and had an antenna twice as tall as I was.
