An exciting new era in RC Soaring has begun with the advent of the US F3J Championship Series, called the J-Tour. With the nationwide increase in participation and interest in FAI Soaring, this series of F3J contests has been organized to enhance participation and pilot preparation to ensure stronger US World Championship teams in the future.

Who hasn’t dropped a wing on landing or landed out and treed your composite model, snapping the boom? My experience is that most mishaps where the model is substantially damaged seem to also break the boom generally midway between the wing’s TE and the stabilizers.

Telemetry has traditionally been banned in most Soaring contests, except for battery voltage feedback, and in most contest formats the argument has always been that Soaring must remain a “pure” sport where we use our bodies to feel the changes in the air and decide where to fly without the help of external or “onboard” technologies.
